We’ve done it!

Sent off a cheque for the deposit on our new solar water heating system, and they will be coming the second week in October! We put the central heating system on last night. I just put on a jumper when it began to feel cold in the evenings, but himself was sat watching the football and it was getting a bit chilly in the sitting room.

Have been looking at various options for the layout of the en suite, and have discovered that as I am neither very rich or very stylish, B&Q can supply most of my requirements. Have decided to get a small sized all-in-one freestanding shower cabin, as none of the walls or floors in this house are straight, and then we won’t have to worry about lots of extra tiling, and leaks etc. All the fittings etc are already incuded, and the shower fitment is thermostatic, so it will probably work out about the same price as a 2 sided one plus all the extras.

They also do special mini-toilets and basins designed for cloakrooms, so there will be room for a loo as well, which would be nice as at the moment it is a bit of a hike to go to the other end of the house when you have to get up in the middle of the night.

The bathroom plumbers are coming next week to work out how much it will cost to install all the fittings. Luckily the loo will fit in right next to the wall which has the main soil pipe fitted to it, which should make things easier.

Once we have got that all sorted I will clear out the attic bedroom and put in a proper vanity unit with a washasin, then I might advertise for another student lodger during term-time, to help pay for it all.

I have arranged for the painter to come and do the outside windows and doors the week before work starts on the solar project, so they wont be in each other’s way with ladders etc. Found out his missus works at the same place that I used to, and I met her at a former colleague’s leaving do the other week. Small world!
